Art charity raises $75k in six days to support bushfire crisis

[ content, campaign ]

I had the idea for Bushfire Art Aid on January 5th, feeling a million miles from the fires catastrophe in my homeland and wanting to do something, anything.

What can the creative community do to help the cause?

I moved fast to rally a network of talented visual artists to donate works that would sell on the gallery site that I purpose built: bushfireartaid.org

All prints sold as 16 x 20 archive quality digital C-Prints for AUD$150.00, plus shipping by surface post, to anywhere in the world.

bushfireartaid.org launched via Instagram on Jan 6th, and I curated new works daily.

We showcased works by some world famous photographers, and even had some famous faces for sale, like archive Heath Ledger and Nick Cave portraits. We sold out of most works.

We took over 380 orders from 22 countries in six days.

I thought we might raise AUD$5K.

Proceeds totalled over AUD$74K when we closed the fundraiser on January 12th.

100% of proceeds donated to NSW Rural Fire Service, The Climate Council of Australia and WIRES Animal Rescue, working hard on the ground in Australia.
